A visitor

We had a very helpful visitor yesterday.

Going back out to work after lunch, my business partner Toni opened the door to the shed we had been working in all morning and a beautiful big Eastern Brown Snake came slithering out less than a metre from her feet. He then proceeded to investigate all the crates she was getting ready to wash, before taking off (very quickly) around the front of the house, back out to the back yard and through the pool yard (which at the time had a chicken and a dog being contained in it... we quickly removed them) out into the paddock.

It apparently then made its way through a hole in the shed again where it took up residence in the room we were working in. Toni (again) startled him when she walked into the room-- he quickly disappeared, the only problem was that we don't know WHERE he went. LOL And of course we still had work to do, so we had to keep going in the room...we just made sure we stomped a lot...as it's never a good idea to sneak up on the world's second most venomous snake.

Isn't he pretty? )

Moving house

Not me... but someone was.

I had a hell of a time getting home today after dropping my son at work, what is normally a 15-20 minute drive took closer to an hour because someone was moving house, complete with police escort...

LOL Not a sight you see every day. I'm glad I wasn't in a hurry.

We had some visitors this morning... most were hiding behind trees so I couldn't get more than a tail shot, but one was kind enough to let me take her photo.

It must be bunnies... )

Pretty Faced Wallabies are a regular visitor, I just don't usually think to take a photo. I must try to get photos of some of our other wildlife (mostly just birds of different varieties).

Ratty pic spam...

I need to clean their cage out today, but thought I'd get a few photos of them having fun before I disturb them.

We have a new little baby, she's a cute little cream and white red-eyed baby (although with the flash it's hard to see her markings), and she's just starting to feel confident getting around the cage.

As usual, click for full size pics.

Ivy and Mythril enjoying some carrot, pumpkin and sweet potato baby food.

The new (as yet un-named) baby squeezing her way past the big girls to get her share.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat I have discovered a fun photo community ( [livejournal.com profile] photo_scavenger ) that I started posting to today. Each week they give a prompt and you post a photo that fits the prompt.

Last week's prompt was 'water' and this week's is 'depart'. I thought I may as well post them here each week as well for those who may be interested.

WATER:
Well, we've certainly had a lot of water lately here in South East Queensland. This was the view from my front door last Tuesday.

DEPART:
An unwanted and troublesome palm departing the property, with a little help from my husband and his tractor.

Ivy discovered the cat's scratching post yesterday and thought it was great to climb...the only problem was how to get back down again. lol

Horse pics

[livejournal.com profile] ayinhara asked for my favourite horse...

Moondarra Sadi is my baby. He's a purebred arabian gelding, by Kyarnda Lodge Panache out of  Moondarra Silk 'n Lace

Unfortunately my allergies have got so bad that I can't even give him a pat without my eyes swelling closed, so he has been nothing more than a paddock ornament for the last few years. Sadi (along with our mare) will be going off to visit a friend of mine for an extended stay as she has lots of nice yummy grass for him to enjoy (and she will be giving the lazy sod some work too, but we won't tell him that).

[livejournal.com profile] debris4spike asked for a photo of our local church. By English standards (and even most other countries) this is not old, but you have to remember that Caboolture didn't begin settling until 1842, and even today Upper Caboolture (which is a 15 to 20 minute drive along 80km/hour roads to Caboolture itself, so imagine how long that took by horse) is more bush and acreage properties than suburbia, back then it would have been very isolated.

I got a little carried away, but it's sooo cute! )

[livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat, I am working on the wildlife pics, unfortunately the local wildlife is being a tad uncooperative (we had flocks of both white and black cockatoos fly over yesterday, but they didn't bother to land even though the white ones usually love landing here and denuding our passionfruit vine). LOL But I do I have a couple of bird pics I took this morning in the church grounds, as soon as I get some more to go with them I'll pop them up.

[livejournal.com profile] monkeyscorpion asked for: The view from your front porch/front door.

It's a little damp and the day is not the nicest (it's been raining all morning), but here you go...

Again, click for full size.

[livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip asked for a photo of my bookcase...

It's an 8ft x 6ft hardwood (don't ask me to remember exactly what type of hardwood lol) bookcase that my lovely husband made for me. It's currently in a state of disarray and sorting it out is actually on my to do list now that school has started back. It wasn't easy to photograph as the 'room' it is in is actually just the foyer and is too small for me to get back far enough to fit the whole thing in, so I took a few shots from different angles.
