Moving house

Not me... but someone was.

I had a hell of a time getting home today after dropping my son at work, what is normally a 15-20 minute drive took closer to an hour because someone was moving house, complete with police escort...








LOL Not a sight you see every day. I'm glad I wasn't in a hurry.

I've seen them heading down the highway before, but I've never been stuck behind one on a narrow road for half and hour before. LOL I couldn't resist taking the photo when we all stopped for the escort to move some low branches out of the way.

There is a business just along the highway from me that sells used houses (they are actually shown on Billy Connelly's World Tour of Australia - Brisbane episode), so I imagine that is where this one came from.

And you'd think not moving it at rush-hour would kind of be a no-brainer...

It was about 11am, so not rush hour, and was heading up a reasonably quiet road... it's just the only road out to where I live. LOL

The house was nicely balanced... it has a support car following it with a wide load sign that has pulled over to get out and move something (probably a branch) out of the way, and it does look in the photo like it is part of the truck thus giving an unbalanced look. There's also a police car right behind that (hidden by the four wheel drive behind it), so everything was being done nice and safely. Just slowly. LOL Which when you're taking an old house out for a drive is, I guess, the best way to go.

I'm pretty sure the police had blocked the traffic coming from the other direction off, so I guess I can't complain, at least I got to slowly amble along behind the house rather than having to await its arrival at the other end.

BTW... having laptop issues, I am currently on the PC which means I can't get my mail or messenger programs atm (because I don't remember my passwords and they are all nice and safe on the not-working-laptop). *head desk*

Yeah, I see them heading off up the M1 sometimes in the wee early hours as the depot is on the service road just behind it, but I never expected to get stuck behind one on a normal road. lol The road actually gets narrower and steeper further up, so I hope they didn't have too much farther to go past my place.
