Wed, Nov. 12th, 2008 07:20 pmMy non-fanfic Reading List for 2008
Since I discovered fanfic, I don't read anywhere near as many books as I used to, I still read constantly, but more and more of my reading is fan fic (which saves an awful lot of money! lol). Having said that, I do still enjoy curling up with a good book, so here are the ones that I have read so far this year (or at least as many of them as I can remember).
I'm not going to write a review for them, a lot of them are re-reads, and all but one (*cough*The DaVinci Code*cough) I have thoroughly enjoyed.
Books read...
Eragon by Christopher Paolini
Eldest by Christopher Paolini
Brisingr by Christopher Paolini
Into a Dark Realm by Raymond E Feist
Wrath of a Mad God by Raymond E Feist
Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey
Dragonquest by Anne McCaffrey
Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey
Dragonsinger by Anne McCaffrey
Dragondrums by Anne McCaffrey
The White Dragon by Anne McCaffrey
The Lance Thrower by Jack Whyte
The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown
The Fire Dragon by Katherine Kerr
The Gold Falcon by Katherine Kerr
The Spirit Stone by Katherine Kerr
Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper
The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper
Greenwitch by Susan Cooper
Sitting around waiting to be read...

The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay
The Grey King by Susan Cooper
Silver on the Tree by Susan Cooper
Waiting to be released or bought...
Rides a Dread Legion by Raymond E Feist
The Shadow Isle by Katherine Kerr
April Fools Day by Bryce Courtenay

Date: 12/11/08 04:03 pm (UTC)The Susan Cooper are spectacularly good, IMO, and get better towards the end - the two you have left are the best of all IMO. I really like those early McCaffrey Pern books, though some of the more recent volumes have been off her game a bit I think. And I think I'll add those Kerr books to my TBR list. (Which is measured in galactic distances, of course.)
Interesting list.

Date: 12/11/08 09:23 pm (UTC)LOL They were mostly rereads--except the Inheritance Cycle (Eragon etc), which are my son's books that he recommended. But, yes, I do like to read (or at least reread) a series all in one go.
The Susan Cooper books are fabulous, I've had them since I was a kid and still pull them out to reread every few years.
Those particular Kerr books are a long way in to the series, but I do rec the whole series. They are a little confusing to begin with (they do a lot of time changes), but once you get used to them they are quite good.
Of all the books there, Feist is the one I'd rec the most, but then, along with Sharon Penman, he is the author I drop everything to read when a new book comes out.

I have a review of that one somewhere on my LJ... I was flabberghasted that it had sold so well and that so many people liked it. The writing was *awful*.

Date: 12/11/08 05:59 pm (UTC)Her first book ever, Restoree, is fascinating as it was set in part in a future which, obviously, has not been quite as she expected - it is still one of the books I go back and reread at least once every year.

Date: 21/11/08 10:32 pm (UTC)Have you read any others of his? I'm in two minds about reading April Fools Day, I would like to read it--but it is going to be so sad. While I love angsty books, I'm not so keen when I know they are true stories.
