My poor old PC finally bit the dust and I now have a nice shiny new PC--or a new tower. (Fortunately the old one had the good grace to wait for the tax refund to come in before dying.) So I have spent the last couple of days trying to find all my discs (I really need to store them all in one spot!) and installing all my programs. As for learning my way around Vista--it isn't particularly difficult but it really does seem to go the long way about so many things. *sigh* I am sure I will get used to it in time. Am also having a few problems with the fact that the Vista computer doesn't wish to speak to the XP computers on the network--it would be too much to hope that they would have made the programs compatable with each other, wouldn't it? The fact that I have a never-ending cold and am trying to do all this while on Codral probably isn't helping. lol

Prior to my old computer dying I spent a day going through and actually organising all my artwork into my LJ Gallery, so if anyone is interested in adopting a banner, grabbing some icons, or just having a sticky, you can find it all HERE

I am happy to personalise anything, however my PS disc is one of the ones I can't seem to find at the moment, so it may be a few days---am sorely tempted to say bugger it and just go buy CS3 while the boy-child is still in school and I can grab it at student price.

In other news, it is Joyce month over at [livejournal.com profile] good__evil, so if you have any Joyce-centric fics you would like to share, we would love to read them. Or if you have friends who have any suitable fics please send them our way--old or new, as long as it hasn't been posted to [livejournal.com profile] good__evil before.

Ooo new computer! I love having a new computer! Have you had any problems with compatibility with your existing programs and Vista, or have they sorted most things out now. I know when they first went over to Vista lots of programs like PS didn't work.

I never even thought about getting things at a student price *face/palm*!!

The new computer is incredible! My old one was almost 10 years old and I had just replaced bits as they slowly died...but it still had the original motherboard and processor, so I am constantly amazed by how fast this one is. (Quad core, 4 meg of ram, a terrabyte of HD and an NVIDIA 8600GT graphics card)

The only programs I have had problems with so far are one game that didn't want to load and the upgrade to Vista Ultimate which encountered an error about 3/4 of the way through the process...I haven't tried that again, figured I'd wait 'til I'm less zoned out on psuedoephadrine.

My biggest problem at the moment is the network. When I first set it up to the network it flashed up a message about needing to install something or the other on the XP computers so they would be able to communicate, but it was late and I was tired so I figured I'd do it the next day--of course it hasn't given me the message again so I am going to have to go searching for the info (again, will tackle it when I'm more with it).

I think a new computer is as good an excuse as any to upgrade my photoshop, don't you? lol Especially as I can't find mine. (It has probably dissapeared into the daughter's room--which means it will most likely never be seen again!)

LOL Students are wonderful things to own, they make all the nice (and very expensive) programs much more affordable.

Absolutely! :)

Hope you feel better soon - it's really hard to research technical stuff when your head doesn't work properly!

*hugs*

LOL Yes, it is so nice knowing that the computer will turn on in the morning!

How are you getting on with Vista? On the whole I don't hate it, but I don't think it is as user-friendly as XP.

...and that pages will load before you have to shut the darn thing down and go to bed...

I am fine with it, actually. I may be weird.

New computers are always fun. I'm not sure I like Vista all that much. I tend to use my laptop with XP more often than the newer computer with
vista. But, it does have great parental controls on it and that comes in handy with 5 younger children cruising the net.

Any excuse to get the new photoshop is a good excuse :)

True, I'm sure the parental controls are great when you have young kids.

It seems the boy has lost his student ID card *sigh* so I shall have to wait for him to get a new one before I can have a shiny new PS--for now I guess I'll just have to look for the old one.

*hugs* It's good to "see" you again! I'm glad to hear about the new computer. I find some of those banners hugely tempting, but as I'm currently still at work on Now and Always, I'll have to revisit them once I've started something else.

LOL The banners aren't going anywhere...and hopefully by the time you are after one there will be more for you to choose from.

Vista... *clings* I hope I don't need it; I want to keep XP.
I hope you'll get your network connected. And that you won't have problems with your programs being compatible to Vista.
Otherwise: Have fun with your new computer :)

I tried so hard to get XP...but the man laughed at me and told me XP is dead, get used to it. *sigh*
