Looks like it's plagiarist season!

Thanks to http://greenapple.insanejournal.com/ for spotting this, and to raemcn for letting me know (and for taking all the screencaps for stop_plagiarism)!

Someone by the name of magickboxgirl has been having some fun. It seems she's plagiarised at least 3 authors, Pattyanne, hollydb and me, and as she's since deleted her journal I guess there's no way of knowing if there are more.

'Her story' posted March 2008 ( http://community.livejournal.com/tin_and_jewels/56784.html#cutid1 ) and my fic To Sin--Divine! written 3 years earlier-March 2005 ( http://www.axisoflove.org/Spike/to_sin.html ) Obviously there some changes to make it fit into the other fandom, but for the most part it is the same.

Yeah, I don't 'get' plagiarists--what sense of accomplishment can there be in posting something that isn't yours? And also, you'd think by now they would have worked out that they WILL get caught eventually!

true story, I once saw someone post an actually published Angel novel on ff.net. I mean, how stupid do you have to be to type in an actual novel aimed at the fans of the fandom you're posting it in?

LOL It's not as bad as the last one I was involved in...I lost track of the number of authors that person had stolen from!

I just don't understand what is in the heads when they do this. And apparently she was pretty well known in that fandom. There was even a post in her journal where she completely ranted about someone who reviewed one of the plagairaized fics and told her that she had no clue about the characters she was writing. And she was really angry about the comment. o_0

There is one other that I know is cannibilized from a Spuffy fic and it is driving me nuts. Do you recognize this?

No, I don't recognise it but it certainly reads like something that could soooo easily have started its life as a Spuffy fic, doesn't it?

There were a couple of 'her fics' that really rang a bell, but I googled like mad and didn't come up with any matches *sigh*

Oh my GOD! You were plagiarised! That just stinks! I hate that that happened to you. I guess this chick just up and disappearing is as close to an admission of guilt as there'll ever be...

I just hope she just goes away and doesn't start up again under a new name.

Holy buggering crap. She was on my flist for several months and always seemed like a great person. I didn't even realize that she'd deleted her lj let alone known about the other stuff. I'm sorry this happened to you alwaysjbj. I guess it's impossible to judge a person's character on the internet.

It's also impossible for me to understand why someone would take a risk and steal someone else's work. If you can't write, don't steal so that you can pretend you are an author. Jeez.

Sorry I didn't find yours, but am definitely glad someone else did. As soon as I knew she had plagiarized the first fic that was Pattyanne's I went on a screen capping binge to try and get as many as I could before posting to stop_plagiarism. I've been working 7days a week lately and with the family I've had precious few hours online, so my first priority was to cap as many fics of hers as I could in a week before going to SP with what I already had. I do plan to continue going through the rest of the fics just so that I can inform anyone else that she plagiarized and let them know what has been happening.

You did a great job. I am just amazed you found these--it's not a fandom I've even heard of.

I went through 'her fics' and there are others that definitely rang a bell, but I just couldn't place them, and googling didn't get any results. I hope someone recognises them.
