Title: Dead Inside

It hurt.
Not the bruised flesh, the broken bones or the torn skin. Not even the hole that her cold words had ripped in his heart.
He had failed her.
In the end it had meant nothing. She’d left him lying there—useless—as she left the alley; determined to throw her life away. His words, his pleas, everything he'd tried to do to save her, had failed. Just as he’d failed to save her on the tower.
When it had counted, when she’d needed him to come through, he’d failed her once again.
Swollen eyes closed against the pain.
