Too many faces
He awoke slowly, the bright morning sun that peeked around his curtains stabbed mercilessly at pained, over-sensitive eyes. He had responsibilities. The shop needed to be opened. Tasks needed attending to. Records must be written. People needed him; now more than ever. Yet he could not muster the strength to care. Responsibilities be damned. Today he wasn’t a watcher, or a shopkeeper or a life-raft to a handful of drowning children. Today the world could go to hell. He sank wearily back into the pillow and allowed the tears to fall; a father’s tears for the daughter of his heart.
