We have finally heard from everyone and they are all safe.

Thank you to everyone for your good wishes. *hugs you all*

We are safe and mostly dry, just cut off from the rest of the world as the only road in to our area is flooded on either side of us, but where we are is reasonably high, so we should be fine.

At the moment we mostly just have a few flooded creeks between us and civilisation, but we are in a pretty dry spot here, so doing much better than so many others.

Just so thankful to hear that news.

In England it has been hard to grasp the amount of water that Australia ia coping with ... they said (last week) that there was more surface covered than the whole of Germany and France togather - that makes a "good" comparison to cope with.

I have been watching where the water is going with you and a couple of other friends in mind - hard to do anything else.

Take care ~ keep safe.

Good to know your relatives - and you - are all safe.

I've a few online friends in Australia, and listening to the news today have been hoping they are all safe and dry. I must check out some addresses.

*hugs*

It's a relief to hear that - I've been thinking of you and your family whenever the News has mentioned the floods. It sounds pretty apocalyptic over there.

Stay safe and dry...

I have only just checked my F-list having seen the devastation - I'm so glad your family are OK.

This is turning into such a nightmare for you - my heart goes out to everyone that has been affected!

So very glad to hear it. I've never been caught in floods - although I came close racing to see James in Cardiff one year, watching the rivers either side of the road creeping up as I bombed along the motorway - and I remember when I was little thinking it would be kind of fun. I take it all back. It looks horrific, and I'm thinking of you. *hugs*

Thanks, honey. We are fine... the flooding in our area (just north of Brisbane) has all gone down and we are just sitting glued to our tv watching the flood in Brisbane unfold.

Thanks, sweetie. Yeah, we have been glued to the telly for the last couple of days watching it all unfold.

I think last week's comparison is a little outdated now, someone last night said it is now about 40 times the size of England if that helps...and I think there is more since then.

My mum is in one of the suburbs right near the river, but fortunately she is on top of a hill and is safe and dry, just without power for the foreseeable future.

There is a live chat (and up to date news) on the Courier Mail website (http://www.couriermail.com.au/ ) where you can ask about areas your friends live in. I hope they are safe and dry.

Thanks, honey. We are safe and dry here, all our floodwater has gone down and we are just watching/worrying about poor old Brisbane as the worst flood since the infamous '74 flood hits the city.

It is scary, but the emergency services (including the SES who are all volunteers) have been incredible. Unfortunately I think today as the floodwaters go down in the Lockyer Valley is going to be a heartbreaking day as they are likely to find the bodies of many of the missing people.

It is pretty bad, there are so many areas affected.

They are estimating it will take approximately 2 years for the city of Brisbane to recover...even though the water thankfully didn't end up going as high as '74, the population in and around the CBD is much higher than it was back then, so many more people have been displaced.

And of course there are all the rural town which have been devastated too...some towns like Withcott and Grantham have (from what we are seeing on the telly) been almost completely destroyed.

It is just so heartbreaking.

It is heartbreaking. There has been 24 hour/day coverage on most of the tv channels here since Tuesday and it is so hard to drag yourself away as you watch areas you know and love slowly disappear under the water. My mum lives right near the river in Brisbane, but thankfully on top of a big hill, so she is safe and dry.

It is horrific...and also kind of surreal.

We are fine, the waters in Caboolture went down very quickly once the rain stopped. Unfortunately those in Brisbane and Ipswich aren't faring so well.
