Cast from Eden’s gate with no regret.

He loved the mornings, the quiet moments as the sun gently climbed above the horizon, bathing everything in gold. With the curtains left wide you could watch its slow progress from the bed. Watch as the sky over the river lightened gradually through an array of colours; the night giving way gracefully to the emerging day, the river turning from inky darkness to a shimmering rainbow of colours.

He had always been a morning person, a habit that had served him well over the years, allowing for timely exits when necessary or expedient. Now, however, he enjoyed the peace, and the tranquillity of sharing the sunrise with someone who made him want to linger, to appreciate the softness of life, the rare moments of beauty. Even if that someone was usually asleep and snoring through nature’s performance. He smiled to himself; in the few short weeks since he had met Ripper his life had changed dramatically. He watched the sunlight filter in through the grimy windows of the tiny Hammersmith flat that they shared and found himself dwelling once again on how grateful he was for the night they had met. Of late Ethan found himself eager to face each day; and with it all that life with this vibrant, powerful, and amazingly passionate man would bring.

Half the fun of these is often trying to guess whose viewpoint they're being told from. This one had me totally wrong-footed as I've always imagined Ethan as a night owl, though at that age he probably burned the candle at both ends.

Another wonderful little moment.
