For the last few weeks I haven't been able to load most web pages...and definitely not LJ without timing out...I don't know what the problem was, but today it seems to have fixed itself *knock on wood*. So I am going to TRY to play catch up with the fics I am behind on (it may take a while)...I doubt I will be able to actually catch up on my flist properly so if I have missed something important that you think I should know about please post the link in this post and I'll have a look (as long as my connection continues to play nice).

On the laptop front *sigh* it's still not back... phoning up and nagging asking them about it is on my 'to do' list for today. So I am still on the old PC with it's incredible 600 x 800 resolution that makes reading anything a rather interesting experience. LOL

I hope everyone is keeping well. *clings to flist* I have missed LJ so much!

I have been blaming the poor PC for my lack of internet access, but as it spontaneously fixed itself this morning I am thinking it probably had something to do with my server or the phone lines (which do tend to be a bit iffy out here)...I am just glad it is working again and hope it continues to do so!

The problem is that if it wasn't the PC that was to blame for the unbelievable slowness (as I had originally assumed it was) then I don't know what it was...so I have no way of knowing if it will decide to do it again *sigh* I am really hoping it was something simple (like a line problem) and Optus have fixed it now.

Have you checked for spyware? I was hit with a really nasty piece of that and wound up on the phone with microsoft for hours. Finally we bought a spyware clearing package, ran it and not only solved THAT problem but am running really fast now. Turns out slow running is a symptom.

Yep, spyware can cause all sorts of problems...I have a good anti-spyware program I have been using for years.

That's the annoying thing, the computer itself wasn't running slowly (at least not after I reformatted the drive etc) it was just the internet... I could use YM and my email but trying to load pages was painfully slow and more often than not I'd get a time out error...and LJ being reasonably slow to load at the best of times just wouldn't load at all.

But it all seems to be working nicely now *knock on wood*, so hopefully whatever the problem was has been fixed. We have some major roadworks going on a couple of K down the road... maybe that had something to do with it? *shrugs*

Thanks! I can't wait to get the laptop back...in the meantime I finally had enough of the bad graphics--I had been intending to do the PC up sometime soon, so today I went out and bought a nice new NVIDIA graphics card to replace the one that had died...and a pretty 19 inch flatscreen monitor, so no more nasty 600 x 800 res...it was driving me nuts! lol

LOL...yeah, it has been rather headache inducing! I've been meaning to do the PC up for a while--it was a good PC up until last year and then bits died of old age and it was patched together with even older bits from its predecessors...so I finally gave in today and went out and bought a new graphics card and a nice shiny new flat panel monitor so it's back to being a good computer again. (Although I still can't wait to get my laptop back so I can be in the lounge room with hubby if I want to!) lol

Not being able to go to LJ happened to me too for several month. Some day it did function again. I still don't have a clue. But back then I had a free LJ and wasn't visiting so much.
