All my fics by season...

I have this on my website, but I figured it would probably be a good idea to have it here on LJ too...

ETA: Have post-dated this to make it sticky...I hope it doesn't stuff up anyone's bookmarks.

Snowflake Challenge Day 3

Day 3

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"

It doesn't have to be anything complex - it can be feedback for a fanwork or discussing something you might have in common or even simply admiring their icon. The point is to reach out to someone you normally wouldn't and connect with them, even if it's only for the briefest moment.

I did it.

Snowflake Challenge Day 2

Connection is a large part of what fandom is. Take the time to let creators know you've enjoyed their work.

Day 2

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

[Remember that by fanwork, we are talking about: all forms of creativity. From meta to fic writing to picspamming to hosting a comment-fic-meme to running a challenge, to vidding and podficcing and reccing and pretty much anything you can think of. Crafts, knitted items, repurposed rubber duckies, finger puppets. Pimping posts. Guides to timelines, tattoos, quotes, nit-picky canon guides, episode recaps, synopses, beta work. If you think it's creative, then it definitely fits under the heading "fanwork."]

I decided to go with older (much loved by me) works that newer members of fandom may not have seen.

Rec 1.  Into the Light - Spike/Buffy  by [ profile] jen_nsync_landl

Rec 2.
Legions of True Hearts - Buffy/William  by [ profile] eurydice72

Rec 3.
Are We Friends? and its sequel Just a Summer Romance Spike/Buffy by [ profile] slaymesoftly

Rec 4. Future Imperfect - Spike/Buffy and Butterfly Effect - Spike/Buffy by Cousinjean

I'm going to stop there, although I could go on and on... there are just so many wonderful stories out there! Treat yourself, go and read (or reread) an older fic and don't forget to let the author know that it is still loved!

The Fandom Snowflake Challenge

Snagged from [ profile] velvetwhip ( Original challenge posted here: )

Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

Here are four of my favourite fics...

Rec 1: The Longest Night

Written December 2007

Rated PG - A few years post Chosen, a prophecy is revealed, and it falls to Buffy to prevent the end of the Slayer line.

I love this one because I am very proud of how much story and emotion I managed to put into so few words.

Rec 2: We All Have Destinations

Written July 2006

A short Buffy pov set post Not Fade Away

As with the one above, I love how much story and emotional punch I was able to put into this little ficlet.

Rec 3. A Grain of Sand - Spike/Buffy (complete)
Rated M15+ - Set in Season 6 somewhere around 'Life Serial' and goes very AR from there as slayer and vampire find themselves scouring dimensions. Will their search be in vain? And what will they learn along the way?

This is one of my favourites because of all the different worlds and the subtle (or not so subtle) differences in those worlds that came about due to a small change to canon in that dimension. I had a lot of fun writing this one and enjoyed tying all my little ends up the way I wanted them at the end.

Rec 4. Time Around Me Whispers - Spike/Buffy
Written 16th September, 2005
Rated R 18+ - Spuffyverse rewrite of 'Bargaining'

This is another of my favourites because it can still make me (and others) cry when I read it. I love a story to evoke an emotional response--if people tell me a story I wrote made them laugh/cry/angry etc then I am a very happy author.

An icon meme

DO YOUR ICONS MAKE A STATEMENT: Not sure... that I'm insane, maybe? lol
AND THE SECOND MOST: Guild Wars or Doctor Who
ARE THEY ANY GOOD: I'm happy enough with them.

Default Oldest Newest
Saddest Happiest Angriest
Cutest Sexiest Funniest
Favourite ship Favourite fandom Favourite animated
Best quote Best textless Best stolen idea
Use the most Favourite

That was really hard... in many cases I wanted to pick more than one icon.

(Also, pasting the urls into the code is really hard on the eyes!)

A writing meme, of sorts.

When people look for stories [on story-finding communities, forums etc], they always make them sound awful. Sometimes that's because it really is bad!fic, but often it's good and they just suck at describing the story.

Your mission is to summarise any one (or more!) of my stories badly and I'll try to guess which it is. You could even pretend not to remember details like season, pairing etc to make it harder.

ETA: I commented on someone's icon meme recently and was given icons to do, but my laptop died and I lost the reply, so if it was you, please just point me in the right direction.

A visitor

We had a very helpful visitor yesterday.

Going back out to work after lunch, my business partner Toni opened the door to the shed we had been working in all morning and a beautiful big Eastern Brown Snake came slithering out less than a metre from her feet. He then proceeded to investigate all the crates she was getting ready to wash, before taking off (very quickly) around the front of the house, back out to the back yard and through the pool yard (which at the time had a chicken and a dog being contained in it... we quickly removed them) out into the paddock.

It apparently then made its way through a hole in the shed again where it took up residence in the room we were working in. Toni (again) startled him when she walked into the room-- he quickly disappeared, the only problem was that we don't know WHERE he went. LOL And of course we still had work to do, so we had to keep going in the room...we just made sure we stomped a it's never a good idea to sneak up on the world's second most venomous snake.

Isn't he pretty? )

Moving house

I had a hell of a time getting home today after dropping my son at work, what is normally a 15-20 minute drive took closer to an hour because someone was moving house, complete with police escort...

Cup Day

It's Melbourne Cup day here, so I'm off to the TAB to have my once a year flutter on the ponies, then to the supermarket to get some chicken and other yummy nibblies because for the first time my husband actually has the day off and we are going to enjoy the day.

To the Americans on my flist, enjoy your spooky holiday. To everyone else, just have a great day!

*hugs to all*

We had some visitors this morning... most were hiding behind trees so I couldn't get more than a tail shot, but one was kind enough to let me take her photo.

It must be bunnies... )

Pretty Faced Wallabies are a regular visitor, I just don't usually think to take a photo. I must try to get photos of some of our other wildlife (mostly just birds of different varieties).

New baby!

Just popping on to say... I'm alive. lol I do pop on to read as often as I can, I just don't often get time to comment. I have been very busy working, and when not working I've mostly been playing with the new baby. I have a new kitten... he's adorable, LOVES his cuddles and is, of course, a bundle of mischief. His name is Jeien, he's a 4 month old seal point siamese who has been with us for about 4 or 5 weeks now.

And the other baby... )

I do hope everyone on my flist is keeping safe and well...the world's weather seems to have gone insane lately and my thoughts are with all those affected in any way.

I have internet!

After about 2 weeks of being cut off from the world, I finally have internet again. Hopefully it is actually fixed and will stay fixed.

I doubt I will be able to catch up to LJ, so if I have missed anything important please let me know.

The crazy thing is, I have been so busy this year that I don't get on LJ as often as I'd like anyway, but at least I know I CAN if I want to...not being able to was just awful! lol

*hugs flist* I have so missed you all!
